The Community Energy Grants scheme (formerly known as better energy communities or BEC scheme) has all the same benefits and bonus payments as the One Stop Shop scheme but may be more practical for many projects. The scheme eligibility criteria and financial incentives are the same, but the contractual arrangement is slightly different. If the OSS provider is carrying out all the customer’s required work over a short period, the OSS grant programme is a good solution. The CEG scheme allows the building contractor(s) (the homeowner/their builder) to provide the relevant paperwork/evidence to the CEG coordinator (Vision Retrofit), who will then arrange the grants to finance the proposed project. As part of the national retrofit initiative, strict quality guidelines need to be met, and specialist SEAI-registered contractors need to be engaged where necessary.
The CEG is available to homeowners and private landlords whose property or home meets the following criteria:
✔ For houses built before 2011
✔ Must achieve a BER of B2 or higher after upgrades (this will be made clear on energy engineers report)
✔ Upgrades must reduce the homes energy consumption by >100 kWh/m2.a
✔ HLI (Heat Loss Indicator) must be <2.0 W/m2.K(if Heat Pump is being installed)
✔ SR 50 document Needed for Heat Pumps – This provides calculations and evidence that a heat pump is suitable for the house. (Will be confirmed in energy engineers report)
✔ If the HLI is between 2.0 – 2.3 W/m2.K, individual fabric element backstops will applying an Air Tightness test may be needed(Energy engineers report will clarify this)
✔ BERS & Technical Assessments need to be current, i.e. less than 12 months from the application date. (Energy engineers report will be up to date of publication, giving 12 months to finalise plan and apply for grants)

✔ Option I covers grant co ordination and technical assessment only. This option allows the customer to be more hands on and manage the project and contractors themselves, with Vision Retrofit only completing the initial energy assessment to clarify what measures should be installed to meet the B2 BER rating for the scheme and submitting all necessary paperwork to SEAI to claim the grants. Essentially, Vision Retrofit are a liaison between you and SEAI in this option.
✔ Option 2 covers Project management, energy upgrades and grant co ordination. With this option Vision Retrofit will fully manage the project completing all works and paperwork.
Option 1
Grant Co-ordination and Technical Assessment only
This is a recommended solution for the following customers:
They have already engaged or know of a number of contractors they are happy to use and just want to access the additional grants by going through the CEG scheme
They have the experience, time and energy to manage the different parties and ensure a good outcome
How it works?
✔ We complete the energy engineers report on receipt of the deposit.
✔ The report will detail where the energy performance of the home is currently and what measures are required to bring it to a B2 rating.
✔ We have a call to discuss the report, and we will give clarity on what each measure will do and clarify what combinations of measures will allow you to reach the B2 rating. We will help find which measures would suit you the best specifically for you and your home.
✔ We will give the specifications required for each measure.
✔ You engage your own contractors for each measure. NB: THEY MUST ACHIEVE THE SPEC DETAILED IN THE ENGINEERS REPORT OR IT WILL LEAD TO ISSUES WITH GRANT PAYMENT
✔ Once each contractor completes the work they are required to send necessary photographs and fill and sign necessary paperwork for the customer who must forward to Vision Retrofit.
✔ Once each measure is complete Vision Retrofit-carry out an assessment to verify it is within SEAI code of practice. At this point we will submit the grant paperwork for this measure. (Where there are any breaches in SEAI code of practice, this will be dealt with between the customer and their chosen contractor).
✔ The grant for this measure will be paid from SEAI to the customer (usually within 6 weeks).
✔ The process is repeated for all necessary measures.
✔ On completion of the final measure the post works energy assessment is complete
